The book covers the little-studied period of the life of the First City Theater from 1804 to 1873. It was on the stage of the First City Theater that the formation of various genres of theatrical art - opera, ballet and drama took place, which subsequently determined the leading directions of the repertoire of Odessa theaters.
The main way of studying the creative life of the theater of this period was the historical one, with the involvement of source-study historiographic material. The phenomenon of entreprise is investigated, which marked many of the subsequent trends in the theater's creative practice: the prevalence of operatic arts; reliance on Italian opera as the classical basis of European opera; constant reference to the works of Russian and Ukrainian composers.
